Here’s 5 reasons why you’ll want to hop aboard:

1. Just for grown-ups.
If you’ve ever braved the hustle and bustle of the Polar Express with the kids during the holidays, this is a whole different way to enjoy a train ride. A more chill experience. Sit back, sip, and savor a little more peace and quiet on this 21-and-over ride. Makes a terrific date night or get-together among friends.

2. Chocolate in every form
Eating chocolate. Drinking chocolate. Maybe even taking some with you for later. The Chocolate Tasting Train provides a little taste of everything.

You’ll sip on three different cocktails made from Godiva white, milk and dark chocolate liqueur, with a dessert tasting paired with each: white chocolate mousse, a millionaire bar, and a dark chocolate brownie with cinnamon icing – a play on Mexican hot chocolate. If you’ve always wanted to skip straight to the two best courses – cocktails and dessert – this train’s for you. Oh, and you’ll get a square of white chocolate, milk chocolate and dark chocolate to nibble during the ride or save for later.

 

3. Shot after shot of bourbon
Drinks on the Bourbon Tasting Train are, quite literally, more straightforward.

No cocktails; nothing shaken or stirred. Just four straight bourbons paired with three small plates (two savory, one sweet). You’ll get a taste of two classic Kentucky bourbons (Maker’s Mark and Angel’s Envy) and a double shot of two bourbons produced right here at Spirits of French Lick Distillery: the Lee W. Sinclair 4-Grain Bourbon (named for the owner of West Baden Springs Hotel in its early heyday) and White Bourbon made from 100% Indiana-grown corn.

This one also makes a great last-minute Father’s Day gift for that bourbon lover in your life.

4. Pick your season
Whether you’re a summer person or a fall lover, you’re in luck either way. Both trains have dates in July and October, and either is a perfect time of year to get outside and everything else around the resort during your stay.

Hit the sporting clays or archery range, go for a horseback or carriage ride, take a surrey cart for a spin, play a round of golf, or just grab another drink and lounge poolside. Your 75-minute train ride ends early enough in the evening that there’s still plenty of time to rock on the veranda or hit the casino.

5. A vintage experience to shake things up

When’s the last time you took a ride on the rails? If you’re feeling the need to unplug for a bit, a train excursion can be just what the doctor ordered to slow down and live life the way it used to be. You might get a feel for how things used to be here at French Lick and West Baden, when the trains on the Monon Railroad literally pulled up to the steps of the hotels to let guests off.
